It's Time - Africian Women Join Hands Against Domestic Violence

Welcome to the official website of IT'S TIME: AFRICAN WOMEN JOIN HANDS AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.

This website features the Joining Hands Against Domestic Violence Project: A unique partnership between the Law Court’s Education Society of British Columbia, the South African National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA), working to reform the justice systems and combat domestic violence in South Africa and Ethiopia.

Mahdere Paulos, ex high-court judge and Executive Director of the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association (EWLA), and Tsidi Kambula, Prosecutor, South African National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), will share the challenges and lessons learned from their partnership with the Canadian agency during a Canada-wide tour launching May 27, in Vancouver.

The tour includes the screening of a provocative documentary, IT’S TIME: AFRICAN WOMEN JOIN HANDS AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, depicting the desperate plight of women and girls in South Africa and Ethiopia, and the groundbreaking efforts of the women working to change the system.

“This project was a mammoth and exhausting process that went far beyond my expectation. It is a product of an excellent combination of both the Canadian and our own South African expertise in the various areas of domestic violence.”
